IF THE OTHERS DID NOT EXIST; OR THE MIRRORS
ISRAEL CORDERO & VANESSA LÓPEZ
NOVEMBER - DECEMBER 2019
SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS 18:00
Conceived as an open structure that takes the form of an “underground film club”, If The Others Did Not Exist; Or The Mirrors is an artistic piece based on a series of performative events that take place in the private meeting between the artists and audiences. The hard-to-classify Vanessa López and Israel Cordero have put together a film programme based on their personal collections of films, to be seen jointly with artists and audiences in the private domestic space of members of the audience who apply to take part.
Divided into 16 unique sessions, besides each viewing the artists have designed various performative pieces based on dialogue, thus setting in place a critical framework from which to activate the political possibility of a collective artistic experience from the stance of the Other in the search for a space for the reactivation of the sentient. An open and choral form with which they hope to re-evaluate the potential of art to generate bonds and autonomous structures through which to redirect libidinal energies; to share the artistic principles that motivate artists to continue working with the difficult coexistence of life and work; to face the challenge of being Other or to understand what it means to return home.
To undertake this piece, we need hosts who wish to hold one or various sessions in their own homes. And it will be they who propose the guests with whom they wish to have the viewing.
