ONE SECOND BEFORE
30 MAY — 11 JULY
THURSDAYS AT 21:00
Doors open at 20:30
Admission free until reaching maximum capacity
Like every year around this time, Picnic Sessions are coming back once again to our roof terrace every Thursday from 30 May to 11 July. An eclectic mix of body and sound, Picnic Sessions is a place to meet up, celebrate, dance, sing and watch the sun go down.
“After a cloud drifts by slowly the sky returns to its monochromatic composition. Everything turns golden and the birds seem to float in the air. The atmosphere is static, paused in an action about to take place. Like the moment before a scream, the exact second before a leaf falls from the tree or before a storm breaks. A photo that will soon become a film. Everything happens and everything is contained within this calm that foreshadows an action. A still landscape, with not even a breath of wind, but we cannot relax because we know something is about to happen.”
“A swirling whirlwind of sighs, shouts, wigs, things, laughter, fluorescent colours, bodies dancing to songs, bodies that run, heads endlessly bobbing, creating a sound like the sirens that, as they say themselves, are here with us queers today.”
“An encounter of various temporalities, of different worlds, of various states of one single thing. A beam of light that breaks into thousands of colours. That’s this year’s Picnic.”
Curated by: Aníbal Conde, Magdalena Leite, Andrea Galaxina and María Eguizabal.
21:00 CRIS BLANCO. This could be a concert
Since 2003, Cris Blanco has created some works for the stage which include songs, some written by herself, some by others, a lot of versions, some with fictitious groups and others with real ones, some of which have never been heard before. If they are all put together on 30 May, this could be a concert.
22:00 NADIA TEHRAN. Concert
Nadia Tehran is an Iranian-Swedish artist who explores the limits of personal and political identity and shows us that she is not afraid of defying authority or breaking boundaries. Her powerful message: “I am what I do and I do what I want” is patent in her mix of rap, punk, frantic electronics and enthralling melodies.
21:00 JORGE DUTOR Y GUILLEM MONT DE PALOL. LAS RISAS. Performance
Jorge and Guillem work with choreography, dance and performance, questioning the forms of production, creation, exhibition, interaction and contamination of their art practice. Their works play with language, semiotics, sound, the body and movement.
21:45 STÉPHANIE JANAINA Y NICOLAS JAAR. ¡MIÉRCOLES! Performance
¡Miércoles! (Wednesday) is the day of the week called after Mercury. This project is mercurial by nature and can only be performed on Wednesdays. The first performance of ¡Miércoles! was on a Thursday. The only image to be used to represent ¡Miércoles! is the black and white symbol of Mercury.
21:00 MÓNICA MUNTANER Y ROSA MUÑOZ. CUATRO OCTAVAS Y MEDIA. Dance
The concept of the show seems to point towards the construction of something that might be a concert but which is never fulfilled; a NON-CONCERT. Jeff Buckley’s biography is the thread running through the show around which we can imagine and fictionalise, making incursions into issues like melancholia, old age, death, love, chance, sadness and humour.
22:00 HIGO MENTAL #12: CASA. Audiovisual projection
A project for the feminist interpretation of the audiovisual material circulating on internet. It consists of a videological dialogue in which the alternation of materials creates a critical narrative that questions the hegemonic system of representation.
20:00 10th ANNIVERSARY AUTOPLACER MICRO-FESTIVAL. Concerts
Ten years ago, the Autoplacer/Sindicalistas collective landed on the roof terrace at CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo for the first time. Then came the first Micro-Festival dedicated to self-publishing music with a number of concerts and a stand for fanzines. That Picnic Sessions sealed, in one fell swoop, a decade of future collaborations and mutual enrichment with the art centre that has remained intact until today, ten years later.
This year the collective returns to Picnic Sessions with the same festive and combative approach, energy and impetus as always. We invite you to celebrate sundown in Móstoles with them to the tune of psychedelics, stomping tunes and the noise of the emotion of these three enormous and promising music projects: MounQup, S.E.R.P.I.E.N.T.E and Seda.
_ On 20 June the Picnic Session will begin at 8:00 pm. Doors open at 7:30 pm.
21:00 ÁNGELO NÉSTORE. Stage reading
This is not a recital. This is not a confession. This is not theatre. This is not performance. This is the body of a man who reneges his wounded masculinity while he confronts a photo from 1994 with the open eye of one for whom mutation brings to mind butterflies. A staged reading of poems focused on the body as inhabitable queer territory.
21:45 THE MOUNTAIN. Theatre
An alternative rock band made up of Silvia Zayas (piano and vocals), Luz Prado (violin, flute and vocals), Vito Gil-Delgado (drums and vocals) and Nilo Gallego (bass and vocals). The Picnic Sessions will host a rehearsal for a concert which will finish with a long number with a motorik beat. Nico’s ghost haunts over these interrupted songs, dialogues over music, politics and everyday sounds.
21:00 AJUAR. FILANDÓN. Performance
A filandon is a traditional gathering of women at night-time around the fireplace in which they tell stories and sing songs while at once sewing, knitting or weaving. The museum is transformed into a home where we can share part of our memory through stories, songs, photos and objects.
21:45 CRIS BALBOA
What follows is going to be a techno night, full of hallucinogenic substances to dance till you drop and rekindle the embers of love and hope in a future with all expenses paid.
22:20 ARIADNA GUITERAS E ISAMIT MORALES. BROLLA. Spoken word - Live Session
Brolla is what is spat out of the volcano, what spills over. It is also the sound-performative work of Isamit Morales and Ariadna Guiteras, a space for shared synergies that explore the word as an elastic, rhythmic and mutant place. A hymn to difference, to an orgy of rarities.
_ On 4 July at 8:00 pm, before the Picnic Session, we will be screening CA2M, 10 años en Móstoles in our Infinite Uses room. Produced by López-Li Films and directed by José Luis López-Linares, the documentary film was premiered last October during the celebrations for the art centre’s tenth anniversary.
21:00 ARANTXA MARTÍNEZ. MEDUSA RISE. Performance
Medusa Rise gets up early and throws on some jeans so as not to cross the corridor naked. The belt hangs loose. After a few minutes walking barefoot about the house, back to the room with a bottle of water in hand. Light floods through the curtain-less windows and mercilessly reveals every object and its anaesthesia…
22:00 SASHA SATHYA. Concert
Urban sounds like hip hop, trap and dancehall from an experimental perspective. Transfeminist lyrics on violence exercised against trans-feminine corporality, translesbian affective dis-en/counters, ways of life on the margins of moralist interpretations, the experiences of people with psychiatric diagnosis, the expressions of modern fascism and the defence of autonomous sexual work.
23:15 COSITA SERIA SISTEMA DE SONIDO. DJ session
Danceable songs with hot rhythms made basically for women, in styles like hip hop, reggaeton, dancehall, dembow, bass, grime, jungle, UK garage, R&B and whatever it takes. With a feminist spirit. Legs keep going up and down when we follow the rhythm of our feet. Stepping strong.
All activities at CA2M are free.
