MARÍA JURADO. SPOOKY

Spooky

SUNDAY 15 FEBRUARY, 6.30 pm

Escénicas. 50 min.

Spooky is a fight against the individual and a performance in which two women design a stage set inspired by the codes of suspense cinema and trash cinema. DIY media and aesthetics intervene directly in the space, creating a fragmented narrative that generates a sense of uncertainty, engaging with the audience and highlighting rifts between reality and fiction. The stage represents a metaphor for the brain, which receives information, patterns and projections that our beliefs about the individual construct around us, a seemingly impenetrable but speedily tortuous bell jar. The project seeks to investigate and delve deeper through creation, action and continuous thought, which means that no two performances are the same.

María Jurado is an artist, choreographer, performer and researcher based in Barcelona. She navigates the boundaries between conceptual dance and performance. She studied at the Institut del Teatre. In 2022 she premiered her work Black Sun at the Festival Grec in Barcelona. She participated in the creation process of the piece Mágica y elástica by Cuqui Jerez and as a performer in the piece Japan by Mabel Olea, for whom she was the outside eye for Olea’s latest solo, Cut One’s Teeth. In 2023 she premiered her piece Dancing with my AbjectionSpooky was born as a residency project at El Graner thanks to collaboration with the artist Macarena Bielski López and, later on, the combined strength of a multidisciplinary team. The piece formed part of the Support for Creation Systems: Artist Residencies of Réplika Teatro in Madrid.

Macarena Bielski is a dancer, performer, musician and creator born in Madrid. In July 2022 she graduated with a BA in Dance from p.a.r.t.s, the school founded by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker in Brussels (Belgium). There she developed and researched not only the relationship between dance and performance, but also music production, video, the use of text and the manipulation of technologies on stage. She has worked on different projects since completing her studies. She is an artist-in-residence at Réplika Teatro, where she developed the project Cuando ya no esté and MORFIA, jointly created with Manuel Pita-Romero and presented at the IN-SONORA Festival.
