1502 Persons Facing the Wall is the outcome of the research and work undertaken in connection with Santiago Sierra’s exhibition at Museo CA2M, which ran until 2 February 2025.
The publication brings together images of Sierra’s characteristic “inverse” portraits, complemented by incisive and insightful texts by Alexis Callado, Rosa Martínez, Georg Imdahl, Juan Albarrán, José Luis Corazón, Pilar Villela and Gonzalo Abaha.
The book immerses us in the artist’s uncompromising vision and the questions he raises about power and its effects. More than simply documenting the exhibition, it becomes a tool for reflecting on the networks that shape our realities.
The Museo CA2M is presenting the first solo show by the artist Santiago Sierra in a Madrid institution. This exhibition consists of a compilation and analysis of one of the most common resources in the practice of Santiago Sierra (Madrid, Spain, 1966) throughout his entire artistic career: pictures of people facing the wall, like inverse ‘portraits’ in which the subject’s identity is negated or dissolved in anomie.
