Made by Jacobo Castellano between 2004 and 2005, Casa is one of the artist’s first sculptural pieces. Based on his grandparent’s now abandoned house in a village in Jaen, in making this piece he used doors, windows, everyday objects and family albums he found in the house to build a kind of collage merry-go-round. A playful and creative object, it was made not so much with simple materials but with things charged with history, in this case, his own history based on his childhood memories.
In this piece one can already see what would go on to become a recurrent feature of Jacobo Castellano’s work, which is the use of simple, ordinary materials with an autobiographical component.
CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo exhibits capsules of its collection, which have been placed in transitory spaces throughout the museum, displaying works on a quasi-permanent basis. Each capsule is coupled with a contextualising video in which the artist and a knowledgeable expert speak about the work in question.
