CIUDAD SUR. YOUR HIGHNESS, WE HAVE HAD THE FORTURE TO SEE A RIVER STAND UP

SESSION 4. " YOUR HIGHNESS, WE HAVE HAD THE FORTURE TO SEE A RIVER STAND UP."

TUESDAY 22 NOVEMBER 6:00-8:00 pm

With this statement, the Minister of the Interior, Posada Herrera, announced to Queen Isabel II the introduction of water supply to Madrid in 1858, thanks to the Canal de Isabel II. This new water supply system changed the city of Madrid forever, and also Móstoles when it was hooked up to the system in 1980.

Taking the wonderful capacity of human beings to "put rivers standing up " as our starting point, we will take a different look at the use of water and memory, often taking the form of building fountains, some ornamental and others utilitarian. We will take a look at this aesthetic use to address issues relating to the implications of beauty and ugliness, whatever they might mean, in our relationship with our surroundings.

With this purpose in mind we have brought on board Andrés Rubio, author of the book “España fea. El caos urbano, el mayor fracaso de la democracia”, with whom we will discuss these concepts and their application to Móstoles. To this end, on November 22 we will set aside a comfortable place in the museum to follow up this conversation on the theme.
