The world of Miki Leal (Seville, 1974) is a world of jazz, cinema, the American lifestyle and sport, as well as his family world, his domestic environment and within it his personal belongings.
One example of this domestic environment is the still life La Chaqueta: Miki Leal feels comfortable rendering his universe on paper, with vignettes that talk about his life and his house, personal objects which are, nonetheless, a portrait of the artist himself.
Leal works with paper as his medium because its texture lightens his large pieces, with the human scale as their measure. In La Chaqueta, just like in almost all his paintings, he uses pencil, acrylic and pen, which enable him to create large areas of colour where he interplays form, gesture, outlines, lines and fillers.
La Chaqueta is a work that dovetailed in time with his arrival in Madrid, when he took off as an artist alongside renowned artists such as Luis Gordillo, and when his work joined major contemporary art collections.
