Cecilia Vicuña. Seehearing the Enlightened Failure
CA2M and Turner are producing the Spanish reprint of this book, published in Rotterdam by Kunstinstituut Melly.
This monograph addresses one of the most multifaceted and fundamental artists in the world of Latin American contemporary art today. A global Latin American art icon, Vicuña is considered as a leading light in the world of performance art, as well as being a writer, poet, activist and visual artist.
She has spent decades developing a varied and multidisciplinary body of work built from words, images, environments and a combination of languages, media and techniques. Her work reflects her ongoing commitment to themes that include eroticism, colonial legacies, struggles for liberation, collective happiness, indigenous thought and environmental devastation.
Edited by the critic and researcher Miguel Ángel López, this publication is a retrospective, featuring texts by Cecilia Vicuña, Miguel A. López, Julia Bryan-Wilson, and Lucy Lippard.
The work is co-edited by CA2M, Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Madrid.
Cecilia Vicuña. Seehearing the Enlightened Failure brings together over a hundred works by poet, visual artist, and activist Cecilia Vicuña. Since the 1960s, the artist has constituted a radical perspective on the relationship between art and politics through her writing and art making.
