In his murals, sculptures and videos, Karlos Gil (1984, Talavera, Spain) – who lives and works in Madrid – adapts obsolete and contemporary industrial production practices, combining them with cinematic elements to create scenarios and settings to reflect on possible futures.

In his most recent exhibition, Decline, at the Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, and his most extensive project to date, this artist addresses the relationships between the artificial and the natural, between technology and the body, between man and nature, as well as the complexity of urban signs. Elements of science fiction underpin a meditation on the fragility of our civilisation: apocalyptic landscapes become the setting for a species that has evolved from our reality, threatened by the environment.

The catalogue accompanying the exhibition is the first to examine his work. It offers a representative selection of his previous output and the new pieces created in connection with the exhibition. With contributions by Peio Aguirre, Jussi Parikka, Bernardo José de Souza and Laura Tripaldi.
