- TERESA SOLAR ABBOUD
Teresa Solar Abboud is the catalogue published on the occasion of the artist’s solo exhibition Machine Dream Bird, held at Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo from 17 February to 1 September 2024 and curated by Tania Pardo and Claudia Segura Campins.
The exhibition subsequently travelled to MACBA as Bird Machine Dream, also curated by Tania Pardo and Claudia Segura Campins, before its final presentation at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin as Bird Dream Machine, curated by Irene Calderoni.
The publication presents the work of Teresa Solar Abboud (Madrid, 1985), whose practice centres on the creation of sculptural ecosystems in which families of related forms generate flows and communities, repeating and mutating across space. Working with organic elements, the artist constructs narratives around isolation, immunity and connectivity that speak to a fragmented contemporary subject in constant flux. Although sculpture occupies a central place in Solar Abboud’s work, video has also been an important medium, particularly in the early years of her practice. Together with her working notebooks, it is the foundation from which each form and each work emerges, as well as the relationships that develop between them. Her most recent works are hybrid, syncretic beings, half animal and half machine, inhabiting a space between engineering and mythology and emerging from the deep time of the Earth’s mantle.
The exhibition focuses on two large installations that encapsulate the research carried out by Teresa Solar Abboud over the last few years. Conceived specifically for the CA2M Museum, the exhibition is like a dialogue between the fictitious and the real, where different narratives in process propose new forms and plastic finishes, contrasting the effects of nature with industrial aesthetic finishes of smooth and shiny finishes.
