YWY. LOOKING FOR A CHARACTER BETWEEN FUTURE WORLDS.

The exhibition YWY, Visions is made up of films, interviews and assorted documentation that Neves Marques uses to reaffirm the role of fiction to document environmental and political violence, while also reflecting on different imaginaries of other possible futures for gender, technology, the question of indigenousness and science fiction.

Starring actress, artist and activist Zahy Guajajara, the film Exterminator Seed introduces us to the android YWY, a term that means “land”, or “territory”, in the Tupi-Guarani language. The whole YWY, Visions project revolves around this character, who becomes the protagonist of a plot that takes us through a futuristic, yet strangely familiar, scenario in which Brazil is  controlled by large corporations and mining and agricultural extraction industries.

This exhibition is therefore a great chance to reflect on ecology and the environment, science fiction, indigenous cultures and the many ways in which we can imagine other possible worlds.
