Otto Karvonen built nest boxes as part of his project, Alien Palace Birdhouse Collection, a series of birdhouses that he has gradually installed in various places all over Europe. His objective: to offer birds a safe and comfortable haven in which to raise their chicks, enjoying their presence. Two of his «palaces» are exhibited on the CA2M terrace, inspired by the Metsälä Centre, in Helsinki, and that of Aluche, in Madrid. His intervention has been meticulously considered, yet is voluntarily modest.
Sofía Museum. Two public collection separated by just a few kilometers away. Both shows answer to two different institutional circumstances, however they both converge in the will to critically stare at reality through art.
CA2M holds Rabih Mroué´s first solo exhibition in Spain. Mroué (Lebanon, 1967) developed his career as director, playwright, performer, essayist and visual artist, his work always reflects on the use of images for (and against) official narratives: from the Lebanese geopolitical reality to the massive production of images of the Syrian revolution.
Sin motivo aparente (For no apparent reason) is a collective exhibition showcasing the work of over thirty Spanish and International artists with the single objective of reviewing the relationship between art and public within a context, the CA2M venue, Center where the viewer has been CA2M main objective since its opening five years ago.
In the XX century, the issue of the body has had a unique prominent role within the art history and visual culture. CA2M showcases part of its extensive image collection (photographies, videographics and others) of the body by a serial of artists from different decades and years since mid-XX century to the present.
A través de sus vídeos, fotografías, pinturas y esculturas, Halil Altındere analiza la realidad de su país, Turquía, al subrayar las tensiones que generan los binomios de tradición / modernidad, nación / identidad y sociedad / gobierno. Al mismo tiempo, presta atención a las nociones de comunidad y control indagando en la naturaleza del poder. La exposición del CA2M repasó su trabajo siguiendo tres líneas básicas: su posicionamiento ante la evolución de la sociedad turca contemporánea, la actitud del artista ante un mundo del arte globalizado y el importante papel de Halil Altındere en la escena artística turca.
La exposición del quinto aniversario del Centro reunió una treintena de obras que fueron incorporadas a la Colección CA2M de la Comunidad de Madrid en los últimos cinco años. El predominio del formato fotográfico en la exposición reflejó el interés del CA2M por indagar acerca del estatus equívoco de la imagen en el mundo contemporáneo, su tráfico, omnipresencia y poder emocional.
Pop Politics: Activism at 33 Revolutions exhibition raises a claim of specific politics forms produced in Pop music through contemporary art practices. A way of addressing the current cultural production from a specific ideological way through personal empowerment practices, shared spaces, viewer´s emancipated gaze, mass media and an approach and reconnection of diverse information.
The CA2M Collection VI revolves this time around the idea of art as a means to get closer to reality, as a space to critically gaze the past to finally understand the present as well as to imagine the future. The selected artworks bring us closer to stories, wether real or not, which encourage us to reflect on these premises.
