Before Everything is an attempt to delve into current artistic production from Spain. The exhibition, in which 56 artists will participate, does not set out to offer a totalizing vision of the here and now of Spanish art, but rather to confer an unprecedented level of visibility to productive modalities that have developed in specific locations in Spain.

Fetiches críticos

Critical Fetishes. Residues of general economy is the first instalment in a series of projects by El Espectro Rojo, a Mexico City-based collective which explores the intersection between artistic and theoretical practices from a political, post-colonial and poetic perspective. Fetiches críticos aims to transcend the miserabilist description of the effects of the crisis of capitalism and demonstrate how art documents moments of anti-production, defuses the myths of development and launches the artwork as an object of desire and subversion.

Colección II

In the spring of 2010 the CA2M will present a new selection of its works as part of a programme of temporary exhibitions to show the public the contents of the Contemporary Art Collection owned by the Regional Government of Madrid.

Sonic Youth etc.: Sensational Fix

The exhibition Sonic Youth etc.:. : Sensational Fix focuses on the multidisciplinary activities of the groundbreaking experimental guitar band Sonic Youth since its formation in 1981. The exhibition features the band’s collaborations with visual artists, filmmakers, designers and musicians, as well as a choice of other works selected by the band.

Doblar por encima de la línea. Guy Ben-Ner

The show at the CA2M includes an early series of videos by Guy Ben-Ner recorded between 2002 and 2005, all with the common theme of the paternal figure within the family and all of which extrapolate the situation to any other figure that tries to conform to a group.

Auto. Sueño y materia

Auto. Dream and Matter analyses the presence of the car in contemporary art. Featuring over 100 works by 60 artists from both Spain and abroad, the exhibition explores the relationship between car culture and artistic creation in recent decades.

Light Years. Cristina Lucas

The exhibition Light Years. Cristina Lucas comprises videos, photographs, drawings and installations that serve as performative acts in which the artist herself, other characters, the spectator and even animals directly confront the symbols, myths and metaphors of defining moments in the western patriarchal domination.

Periferias

Featuring the photographs of 10 national and international artists, this exhibition focuses on the periphery as the constantly changing area that surrounds cities and pushes the rural world – what remains of nature – out to a few reserves destined in time to disappear almost completely.
