Young people from 13 to 21

At the end of every school year we like to think of a different way of starting the summer. This time, the artist Marc Vives will pay us a visit to lead a workshop exploring new artistic strategies. Over the course of four days and one night when we will sleepover at the museum, we will explore the unexpected and put our imagination to the test in order to create magical moments that experiment with new forms of creation waiting to be discovered.

We are Nails and Thumbtacks, a little group devoted to artistic experimentation through self-publishing and DIY, always creating through play. We aim to discover and generate multiple ways of materialising our ideas as a group. We explore different media like paper, video, sound, performance and even intangible things, playing with constant constructions and deconstructions.

If you’re between the ages of 13 and 21 and you’re interested in art, this is a space where you can freely experiment. You don’t need any prior knowledge, and you don’t need to be an extrovert; here we invent everything from scratch, together.

This year we’re focusing on transformation to explore what emerges from endings and new beginnings. We’ll invite guests who work in different disciplines like performance, textiles, image and film. We’ll also take trips and appropriate the museum for our creations.

Join us and discover the power of collective creation through play and artistic experimentation.

‘Maybe you can show us that TikTok that you saved ages ago that you thought was so funny/curious/interesting. Maybe we’ll want to stroll, rest, re-do.

I think we'll be a chaotic but creative group. Or maybe we'll get bored, but that's not bad either, right? We’ll visit friends, artists... people who’ll tell us their latest secret and, together, we’ll do something with it.’

Nails and Tacks is an activity aimed at young people aged 13 to 21, where they can discover new creating methods related to contemporary creation. It’s an open, collective space in which to investigate artistic strategies based on the principles of do-it-yourself and self-publishing.

On Fridays and weekends, we will hold workshops and meetings with artists, exploring our personal universes and seeking new ways to observe everyday life from an artistic perspective. You can sign up for a one-off session or for our ongoing sessions,  all of which will be different. Over the next few months, we would love to build a space in which to create, think and imagine together.

Quiosco Clandestino are Angie de la Lama and Leo D'Elio. As a collective, it was born in 2020 in the post-pandemic context from a reflection on the cultural circuits in which both organisers were part of. It was born as an organisation that supports artists or people interested in artistic creation, as well as creating their own projects related to self-publishing.

Angie de la Lama is an artist and designer from Seville based in Madrid. Her work moves between comics, illustration and experimental cinema. She also works as a cultural manager and, within this field, has created Skisomic fest, the first fanzine festival in Seville, and has set up the association Quiosco clandestino de promoción cultural. Angie combines her work as an artist and manager with the development of educational projects for different public and private institutions.

Leo D'Elio is an artist and cultural manager from Madrid. His practice revolves around the personal, the everyday, the public space and practices related to self-publishing such as fanzines, comics and sound experimentation. He is a staunch defender of amateurism and doing it 'badly'. He developed in his youth in the youth group of the 'sub21' museum following 'Duchamp & Sons' at the Whitechapel Gallery in London until he created with Angie in 2020 Quiosco Clandestino and Yina + Eol.

Like a damp stain on the bathroom ceiling, this year Les Sin Nombre are back again. We are going to appropriate the museum waste to create termite nests.

We are going to inhabit, occupy and squat the crack as a place to take refuge, that will allow us to make out way inside, to infect the walls through actions and conversations as sticky as our hands after eating a gigantic ice-cream.

LSN is an activity for young people from the ages of 13 to 21 years in which we will explore new forms of relating with contemporary creation. An open collective space in which to investigate artistic strategies based on DIY methods using whatever we have at hand.

Throughout the various sessions, we will work on the critical construction of objects, images and actions, exploring our personal universes and searching for new ways of looking at everyday life. Together we will build the museum that we want to see, a place where we can chat, sing, show our drawings, sunbathe … Using the waste material thrown out by Museo CA2M (the remains from mounting exhibitions, workshops, activities, etc.) we will build a museum within the museum, like a parasitic organism.

Luisempar is a curatorial collective made up of Empar Polanco (Valencia, 1996) and Luis San Gregorio (Aranda de Duero, 1996), focused on research into performative action and its recording.

Espacio Mutante believes that the end of the school year is the perfect time to take over the museum for a whole week and to build a space where we can spend time together, where we can share and create something between everybody. For this reason we invited the artist Cristina Celada to carry out a summer workshop, where she will help us to experiment with copy-based creative strategies.

A “sweded” film is an amateur homemade remake of a blockbuster movie. In other words it is a precarious, handmade copy and at the same time—or as a direct result—it is truly creative, cheeky and independent. For a whole week we will appropriate all sorts of audiovisual referents like youtube videos, film scenes, trailers, video clips and so on in order to transform them and make a personal and transferrable adaptation.

In this workshop we will dress up, act, build sets and even, on one of the days, camp out in the museum itself. Everything it takes to create our own remake using humour and economy of means.

At the end of every school year we like to think of a different way of starting the summer. This time, the artist Pablo Durango will pay us a visit to lead a workshop exploring new artistic strategies.

The workshop will examine the possibility of building an alternative narrative of our own identity.

Using various techniques like drag, storytelling and playing, we will set off on a journey to different realities and potential fictions.

Opening the portals to other dimensions, transforming our bodies and telling ourselves impossible stories is the point of departure on a journey to Multiversal Arcadia where the only limit is our imagination.

Image: spectrogram, the usual way of cleaning soundtracks of noises that get into recordings and which are detected on the basis of colours of different intensity and place on the spectrum.

In the summer of 1959 the Estonian non-fiction film producer and opera singer Friedrich Jürgenson and his partner tried to record the birdsong of a finch in order to use it in one of their documentaries. In the forest near their home Friedrich placed a tape recorder and remained silent as he tried to record the birdsong. On returning home, he played back what he had recorded.

The sound was clean and clear, the wind, the leaves as they moved, the song of the finch, but... there was something else. On the recording he could also hear a human voice imitating the sound of the finch which then started talking in Norwegian, commenting on the birdsong. Jürgenson supposed that it must have been someone who was also in the forest at the time who he had not been aware of. So, the following day he returned to the forest, but first checking the area to ensure that there was nobody about, and once again he placed the tape recorder beside the finch’s nest. When he returned home satisfied, Friedrich played back the recording. This time there was no one whistling but there was a voice. A voice which he recognized as his own dead mother calling him. Friedel … my little Friedel …. Can you hear me?

In this two-day workshop we will experiment with the boundaries between art and magic in order to defy the logic of our surrounding world.

A workshop led by Raisa Maudit, a multidisciplinary artist whose work is defined by representations of individual and collective desires, needs and expectations in conflict with socio-political standards, generating experiences that are transformed into little acts of subversion.
