Cambridge dictionary definition for Cluster is a group of similar things that are close together, sometimes surrounding something. Cluster is an eight-contemporary-visual-art organization net located on the periphery of capital cities (it cannot be overlooked Holon, located in an industrial area outside Tel Aviv). Cluster started in June 2011 in order to facilitate internal and public exchange of knowledge about how these types of institutions function and also to establish further collaborations between them. After the cluster meeting, it will take place an encounter-presentation from each of the member which will start an open discussion.

Cluster members include Casco – Office for ArtDesign and Theory, Utrecht; CAC BrétignyLes Laboratoires D’Aubervillers, Paris; Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm,  The Showroom, London; CA2M Centro Dos De Mayo, Madrid; The Israeli Center for Digital Art, Holon; and Parasite Museum of Contemporary Art, Ljubljana.

During the CA2M meeting, it will be brought up several issues related to  Center working strategies as well as their response to a new institutional frame, conditioned by remarkable adjustments from the public financial support, and, in parallel, by a questioning of the management of  our forms of government. Attention would be mainly focused on the answers generated from  discussion,  rather than on the change of typology from the projects highlighted by a reduction in resources. May be generated a critical response to this situation from  culture? Can a Contemporary Art museum be a place to put into practice other institutionality forms?

This forth meeting between the Cluster member, follows the ones taken placed in London, Utrecht,  Aubervilliers (Bretigny) and Stockholm.

Participating: Maria Lind and Ulrika Flink, Tensta Konsthall; Julien Duc- Maugé,CAC Brétigny; Binna Choi and Sanne Oorthuizen, Casco Utrecht; Barbara Coffy, Les Laboratoires Aubervilliers; Emily Pethick, The Showroom London; Ran Kasmy Ilan, The Israeli Center for Digital Art, Holon.

LIST OF PARTICIPANTS

MAPEAR Madrid is a work group created in response to a shared desire to seek out and identify the artistic structures and various agents involved in the cultural sector of the region of Madrid. Following an initial period of research and investigation, an announcement will be made, and sessions open to the public will be offered on the first Tuesday of each month until July. At a later stage in the project, a tool for public use will be created to provide the agents and intermediaries of the contemporary creation and art scene with an efficient channel for pursuing professional projects.

The goal is to encourage interaction between artistic communities, strengthening professional ties to help the sector operate more effectively and efficiently; to democratise access to and use of information on the art and creative sector, and achieve greater transparency in its professional practices; and to promote dialogue between contemporary creation and civil society.

COORDINATED BY PENSART

Following the technical research phase – interviews with sector professionals and cultural agents in the region in order to detect and identify their professional relations with universities, industry, the authorities and the media – a tool has been created which allows us to visualise these interconnections.

THU 9 JUN 2010. 19:00 H. SHARING COUNTER - EDUCATIVE MATERIAL & PROJECTS

In this session we will examine materials and strategies used inside and outside of the classroom.

27 & 28 MAY 2010. 10:30 – 14:00 H. WHAT CAN WE DO? EDUCATION AS AN ACTION AND MOTIVATION. SEMINAR WITH MARINA GARCÉS, SANTIAGO LÓPEZ PETIT, DIEGO SZTULWARK AND VERÓNICA GAGO FROM COLECTIVO SITUACIONES

In this session, we will work on texts written by our guests so as to lead the discussion as a critical workshop in which these ideas are related to our own educative experiences. The texts deal will very important concepts, worthy of an in-depth study such as the construction of community, learning process and affects, citizenship, thoughts as an act of resistance…These texts allow us to think and they encourage a collective reflection on emotions, conflicts and uneasiness as well as the necessity of constructing a new kind of autonomy intertwined with other subjects, rather than with individuality. This workshop is the continuation of one of the main line of works of las lindes consisting of a reflection on education from different perspectives and experiences.

MARINA GARCÉS (Barcelona, 1973)  is a lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Zaragoza. She is author of Las prisiones de lo posible (Ed.Bellaterra, 2002) and is regularly published in magazines such as Archipiélago, Zehar, Daimon, etc. She has also participated in collective publications: Por una política nocturna (Debate, 2002), the report Barcelona 2004, el fascismo postmoderno (Ed. Bellaterra, 2004), Las luchas autónomas en el Estado Español, 1970-1977 (Traficantes de sueños, 2008) or La humillación. Técnicas y discursos para la exclusión social (Ed. Bellaterra, 2009) and El arte en cuestión (Valencia, 2010), etc. In 2003, she started Espai en Blanc (www.espaienblanc.net), a joint initiative dedicated to collective experimentation with thoughts. In the frame of this project, she coordinates the magazine Espai en Blanc. Materiales para la subversión de la vida (Ed.Bellaterra) and participates in different research projects. She is currently actively involved in the Master in contemporary performative arts (Institut del Teatre de Barcelona) and other research processes. www.marinagarces.com

DIEGO SZTULWARK Y VERÓNICA GAGO DE COLECTIVO SITUACIONES

Colectivo situaciones defines itself as a Buenos Aires-based militant research collective. Militant research is an elaboration of thoughts in contact with social experience. This practice intends to contribute to self-representation of society through a constant, flexible and equal work with all parties to the conflict. They set up the independent publishing company "Tinta Limón". They were already involved with some of the most active social movements and initiatives before the 2001 popular uprising: Movimiento de Trabajadores Desocupados (unemployed workers’ movement), Escuelas Libres (free schools), Trabajadoras del Sexo (sex workers), Trabajadores precarios del telemarketing (precarious telemarketing workers), GAC (Street Art Group), H.I.J.O.S. (organization of the children of the disappeared during the dictatorship) etc. They also participated in educative experiences such as the school "Creciendo Juntos" or "Universidad Trashumante". In our lindes session of December 2010 we discussed fragments of Un elefante en la escuelahttp://blip.tv/file/4600758 (from 26.15 on).

Diego Sztulwark and Verónica Gago are holding a residency in Madrid as they are supported by the programme for researchers, El Ranchito (Matadero Madrid).

Activist of Workers’ Autonomy during the 1970’s, SANTIAGO LÓPEZ PETIT (Barcelona 1950) worked as a chemist in a firm which was taken over by its workers. He was involved in resistance movements that followed the crisis of the Workers’ Movement. He currently works as a lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Barcelona. He participated in the project Espai en Blanc since the very beginning (www.espaienblanc.net). Among his books: Entre el Ser y el Poder. Una apuesta por el querer vivir (Ed. Siglo XXI, Madrid 1994); Horror Vacui. La Travesía de la Noche del Siglo (Ed. Siglo XXI, Madrid 1996), El infinito y la nada. El querer vivir como desafío (Ed. Bellaterra, Barcelona 2003), Amar y pensar. El odio del querer vivir (Ed. Bellaterra, Barcelona 2005), La movilización global. Breve tratado para atacar la realidad (Traficantes de sueños, 2009). He has likewise contributed to a number of collective books and has been published in journals including El Viejo Topo, Archipiélago, Riff Raff, Futur Antérieur and Posse. His main working line is the relationship between life, politics and art from a critical and activist perspective.

Double session on unbiased educational material, experimental practices and other liberating entertainment. This session is the continuation of last February gathering. We invite all of you to bring materials and strategies that you may have used in your educative practice and that you'd like to share, discuss and experiment in Las Lindes.

10 MAR 2011. 19:00 H. BUT PROF, WHAT'S THAN ALL ABOUT? 1ST INTRODUCTORY SESSION

Double session on unbiased educational material, experimental practices and other liberating entertainment. During this session, teaching resources and strategies used by participants were presented in their educative contexts: a session in which objects, ideas have been brought up so that they can be shared with all participants.

13 ENE 2011. 19:00 H. RETHINKING LAS LINDES 2011

In this session, we discussed topics related to practical issues of las lindes and we reflected on this year's project and its development until now.

9 DIC 2010. 19:00 H. READING ANALYSIS V

In this session, we will analyse some of the aspects put forward by various authors in different contexts. Nevertheless, they all conceive education as a utopian project.

Ferrer y Guardia, La Escuela Moderna, Barcelona, 1912. Chapter dedicated to the education of the future

José Val del Omar "Sentimiento de la Pedagogía. Kinestésica", June 1932.

Francisco José Cuevas Noa, Anarquismo y Educación, Madrid, 2003. Chapters dedicated to Paideia School (Merida) and unschooling:objections to conventional education.

Image: spectrogram, the usual way of cleaning soundtracks of noises that get into recordings and which are detected on the basis of colours of different intensity and place on the spectrum.

In the summer of 1959 the Estonian non-fiction film producer and opera singer Friedrich Jürgenson and his partner tried to record the birdsong of a finch in order to use it in one of their documentaries. In the forest near their home Friedrich placed a tape recorder and remained silent as he tried to record the birdsong. On returning home, he played back what he had recorded.

The sound was clean and clear, the wind, the leaves as they moved, the song of the finch, but... there was something else. On the recording he could also hear a human voice imitating the sound of the finch which then started talking in Norwegian, commenting on the birdsong. Jürgenson supposed that it must have been someone who was also in the forest at the time who he had not been aware of. So, the following day he returned to the forest, but first checking the area to ensure that there was nobody about, and once again he placed the tape recorder beside the finch’s nest. When he returned home satisfied, Friedrich played back the recording. This time there was no one whistling but there was a voice. A voice which he recognized as his own dead mother calling him. Friedel … my little Friedel …. Can you hear me?

In this two-day workshop we will experiment with the boundaries between art and magic in order to defy the logic of our surrounding world.

A workshop led by Raisa Maudit, a multidisciplinary artist whose work is defined by representations of individual and collective desires, needs and expectations in conflict with socio-political standards, generating experiences that are transformed into little acts of subversion.

From its start, cinema has been known as one of most fascinating educative means, not only for the subjects and issues raised, but for its imaginary creation capacity and for encouraging new habits of active and critical perception. For the purpose of providing an alternative to those audiovisual dominant products, those that reinforce that consumption behavior and few times lead to reflection, CA2M has created this activity.

This educative program consists of a discussed film screening by an educator alongside a cameraless workshop. The program offers many experimental and fiction creations. Following the discussion after the screening, it continues a workshop where students will experience and work directly on the film itself. After the workshop, it will be screened the manipulated celluloid by the students.

This project is embedded in the CA2M audio-visual literacy project which aims to promote attitudes of active perception from an early age. Within this program, the museum space becomes a place for children to discover new references, find new images and talk about new issues other than the usual ones. This workshop comes with a teachers´dossier to work it after in the classroom.

This workshop is within the scope of the CA2M long-term activities developed for  educational centers, in particular with those schools surrounding CA2M, with the intent to strengthen collaboration ties with diverse educational agents. For a second year, the activity targets third year students from primary education schools closest to CA2M. This time, La Sonidera will lead this project.

In a society with an audiovisual, radio and sound predominance introduced as exploring means that may provide new sensorial and creative new experiences, this workshop proposed to recover the so popular radio-plays from the 60´ to work aspects such as identity, gender or reality construction. Students from Beato Simón de Rojas will practice listening in search of new perception means. They will also invent stories to be performed using their voices and homemade music and sound effects, working with the body and presence. Through these stories, they could imagine different worlds while develop their capacity to question already-formed ideas about the creation of sound spaces.

La Sonidera is an Ángeles Oliva & Toña Medina´s creation, where they both work in the radio creative field. Thought their radio performances (radio-works designed to be performance with the public), they investigate issues like fears, genders or surviving. Their interest in sound experimentation has taken them to bring back the soundman figure, that person in charge of making the sound effects in radio soap operas, giving a home-made atmosphere to stories with any kind of objects. They claim the radio warmth and its capacity to create mental images as unique means to generate reflection spaces.
