Young people

We are Nails and Thumbtacks, a little group devoted to artistic experimentation through self-publishing and DIY, always creating through play. We aim to discover and generate multiple ways of materialising our ideas as a group. We explore different media like paper, video, sound, performance and even intangible things, playing with constant constructions and deconstructions.

If you’re between the ages of 13 and 21 and you’re interested in art, this is a space where you can freely experiment. You don’t need any prior knowledge, and you don’t need to be an extrovert; here we invent everything from scratch, together.

This year we’re focusing on transformation to explore what emerges from endings and new beginnings. We’ll invite guests who work in different disciplines like performance, textiles, image and film. We’ll also take trips and appropriate the museum for our creations.

Join us and discover the power of collective creation through play and artistic experimentation.

‘Maybe you can show us that TikTok that you saved ages ago that you thought was so funny/curious/interesting. Maybe we’ll want to stroll, rest, re-do.

I think we'll be a chaotic but creative group. Or maybe we'll get bored, but that's not bad either, right? We’ll visit friends, artists... people who’ll tell us their latest secret and, together, we’ll do something with it.’

Nails and Tacks is an activity aimed at young people aged 13 to 21, where they can discover new creating methods related to contemporary creation. It’s an open, collective space in which to investigate artistic strategies based on the principles of do-it-yourself and self-publishing.

On Fridays and weekends, we will hold workshops and meetings with artists, exploring our personal universes and seeking new ways to observe everyday life from an artistic perspective. You can sign up for a one-off session or for our ongoing sessions,  all of which will be different. Over the next few months, we would love to build a space in which to create, think and imagine together.

Quiosco Clandestino are Angie de la Lama and Leo D'Elio. As a collective, it was born in 2020 in the post-pandemic context from a reflection on the cultural circuits in which both organisers were part of. It was born as an organisation that supports artists or people interested in artistic creation, as well as creating their own projects related to self-publishing.

Angie de la Lama is an artist and designer from Seville based in Madrid. Her work moves between comics, illustration and experimental cinema. She also works as a cultural manager and, within this field, has created Skisomic fest, the first fanzine festival in Seville, and has set up the association Quiosco clandestino de promoción cultural. Angie combines her work as an artist and manager with the development of educational projects for different public and private institutions.

Leo D'Elio is an artist and cultural manager from Madrid. His practice revolves around the personal, the everyday, the public space and practices related to self-publishing such as fanzines, comics and sound experimentation. He is a staunch defender of amateurism and doing it 'badly'. He developed in his youth in the youth group of the 'sub21' museum following 'Duchamp & Sons' at the Whitechapel Gallery in London until he created with Angie in 2020 Quiosco Clandestino and Yina + Eol.

EVERY OTHER FRIDAY 17:30 - 19:00

The Under-21 team is a group of young people from the ages of 16 to 21 who are interested in culture, art and community life.

We focus on artistic practices that foster dissident attitudes and collective processes of creation.

Our way of working is in constant evolution. It almost seems like a miracle now to be able to physically meet up in the museum to share time, but it is important to us.

In the new 2022-2023 school year we wish to recover the museum with meetings and hook-ups with artists and collectives, to don high heels, to think about unsustainability, to think about small ways of changing our world through art and to adopt to changing circumstances like chameleons.

We are launching a call to increase the team and so begin with greater strength. Join us and discover the team!

Espacio Mutante believes that the end of the school year is the perfect time to take over the museum for a whole week and to build a space where we can spend time together, where we can share and create something between everybody. For this reason we invited the artist Cristina Celada to carry out a summer workshop, where she will help us to experiment with copy-based creative strategies.

A “sweded” film is an amateur homemade remake of a blockbuster movie. In other words it is a precarious, handmade copy and at the same time—or as a direct result—it is truly creative, cheeky and independent. For a whole week we will appropriate all sorts of audiovisual referents like youtube videos, film scenes, trailers, video clips and so on in order to transform them and make a personal and transferrable adaptation.

In this workshop we will dress up, act, build sets and even, on one of the days, camp out in the museum itself. Everything it takes to create our own remake using humour and economy of means.

Enrolment free from 15 June

“It’s hard to describe exactly what it is like: it has something monstrous, something from science fiction, a thing that you can’t put your finger on but which gradually starts to make sense, that takes place unseen, different layers, the power of the imagination, suddenly seeing something unexpected, two different realities, what inflates, what shines …”

The projects by the artist María Jerez always have this thing that is never easy to explain. Works that are based on emotions, processes of trial and error that create unexpected connections and reconnoitre forms of imagination still waiting to be explored.

ESPACIO MUTANTE has invited María to give a creative workshop in December for young people from the ages of 13 to 21. Over two consecutive Saturdays we will create a space for making, experimenting and taking risks. A workshop in which we will submerge ourselves in new creative universes and work with a combination of processes and strategies close to theatre, dance, film and the visual arts.

Aimed at young people between the ages of 13 and 21

How do we look at art? How do we position ourselves in front of an artwork? How do we interpret works of art? How do we share them? These are just some of the questions that arose over the last year in Sub21. But, you are probably asking yourself, what is Sub21? Well, this is the perfect opportunity to introduce ourselves, and the reason why we are organising an event open to the general public in which we will explore the guidelines of what we could call CA2MISM.

We wish to create a safe space where we can share different ways of seeing things. An accessible space where there will be a closed code that speeds up the space’s learning process.

—As Sub21 then.
—But open.
—Ah! A sect!

The U21 team is a group made up of young people from 16 to 21 years of age who are interested in culture, art and community life. We focus on utopian practices of art that promote experimental forms of organisation, dissident attitudes and collective creative processes. Our way of working is to continuously evolve: right now it seems almost miraculous to be able to meet at a museum to spend time together but we feel that this is very important. This year, we aim to bring back museums, meetings, artists and group meet-and-greets, travelling to the future, becoming nomads and mountaineers, doing magic and adapting to the circumstances like true chameleons.

In this first stage of the year, called Start of the End of the World: Youth, we begin a collective research laboratory with the artist Paz Rojo, in which we radically experiment with speculation and the future.

Currently the U21 team is made up of: Diego Alonso, Alicia Arévalo Gallego, Cristina Bermúdez Garrido, Paula Díaz Cano, Miriam Domínguez García, Sandra Esteban López, Nadia Ettahri, Claudia Fernández Concepción, Marina Lillo García, Irene Lloret Miguel, Elisa Lozano Triviño, Fabiana Marques Abatemarco, Richard Moreno Campechano, Marina Olympia Rodríguez Ibáñez, Rosario O'Kelly, Hugo P, Daniel Perera García, Iris Perpiñá Fabra, Rubén Reyes Carrasco, Tamara Serrano Cabello and Marina Viñarás Germano.

The new team members will be: Marina Díaz, Adrián David Ferrer Cinta, Carolina Vizcaíno Serrano, Chris Alzamora Martínez, Claudia Mangas Gómez- Álvarez, Eleana Mayra Fernández Barcellona, Esly Reyes Germán, Valentina Herrera Otálvaro, Brallan Josué Ramos López, José Javier Hernández Escudero, Ana Rodríguez and Clara Isabel de Pedro Lizarazu.
