In this oddest of school years, which never really got off to a proper start, we are now drawing to its possible conclusion, a summer, a chance to get out there, to who knows where. We want to spend these last two months of the school year strolling around the rooms and halls of the museum, thinking about ourselves, about the walls, about the exhibitions, about its spaces and places, about our loved ones.

Every Tuesday from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm, the museum’s education department invites you to shake up its spaces, see how they move, see how they can be used by a museum now, how to build new ways of being together inside and outside the institution.

Every Tuesday we will start out from a different space:

  • stairs
  • perimeter
  • corners
  • ceiling
  • halls
  • being
  • outside

Triggering impulses, working in an experiential way, promoting critical attitudes through action, involving the body in learning processes ... These educational practices, in tune with the centre’s educational philosophy, are based on the construction of knowledge through experience. Thus, the exhibition’s performative routes focus on the spectator's experience and turn their gaze towards current art. In this way, we create meeting spaces in which to experiment and construct critical discourse regarding contemporary work.

At this time, we wish to invite you to visit two of CA2M’s exhibitions with us.
On Saturdays at 6:30 PM we propose visiting TRÉMULA, artist Javi Cruz’s exhibition, together. And on Sundays at 12:30 PM, VEROÍR EL FRACASO ILUMINADO (EXPERIENCE THE ILLUMINATED FAILURE) by the artist Cecilia Vicuña. There will be a maximum of 6 people.

To sign up, write to educacion.ca2m@madrid.org or call 91 276 02 21. You can also come directly to the museum and, if there are not too many of us, join the tour by leaving your details at reception. We take all of these measures in order to take care of ourselves and to take care of you, though we are aware that these measures may change according to the situation. We look forward to meeting up with you again.

Biografías

These months, the exhibitions will be filled with objects we may hover over, see from above or closer up. We suggest walking among them and under them, touching them and seeing what happens in that encounter.

We encourage you to engage in this collective experience, which is open to all types of groups, on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Each tour will be different, and we’ll make them up as we go.

We may visit Déjà Vécu. What Has Already Been Lived, the exhibition by the artist Asunción Molinos Gordo, where we may wonder what mysteries the flint of Madrid harbours or what the social life inside the microcosm where human intestinal bacteria live is like.

On this collective tour, we may also wander around the different sculptures that Teresa Solar has proposed for the first floor, or go up to the third floor to discover what stories the artist Ana Gallardo has brought back on her journey from Argentina.

The programme is targeted at any type of group: clubs, organisations or school groups.

Register in advance at 912760227 or educacion.ca2m@madrid.org.

We are pleased to partner with Amecum on these tours, which suggest different ways to approach the works of these artists

These visits will take us through works from the artist's early career to discover his interests in architecture, archaeology, hearing, domestic interiors, theatre, poetry and his optical floors.

This exhibition is conceived as a continuation of ‘Everything I See Will Survive Me’ (in the Sala Alcalá 31), which focused on the artist's work in the 1990s. Here, we will display works produced by the artist in the 1980s. In this exhibition, you can see some of the pieces that introduce you to Muñoz's lesser-known side, which you can discover through these tours.

‘Mediación para cinco pasamanos’ (Mediation for Five Handrails) proposes different approaches to this artist’s work, starting from concepts such as inclination, instruments of surveillance, presence/absence, the haunting of the everyday and sculpture/scene/narrative.

UNTIL JANUARY

In the coming months, the exhibitions will be full of objects that we will be able to fly over, contemplate from above or close up. We suggest wandering among them, finding refuge under them, letting them move you to see what the encounter brings. We invite you to enjoy this collective experience, which is open to all kinds of groups.

Each trail will be different, deciding on the route as we go. Choose the trail you want to take; perhaps Susana Solano's previously-unseen canvases recently acquired for the CA2M Museum collection, or Cristina Garrido's research into the art system through 100 artist biographies. Discover Adolfo Schlosser's ecological side with his Bóveda installation, an investigation into organic materials that was already ahead of the curve in terms of sculptural interests and trends in the 1990s.

If you prefer, follow a trail through The Violet Hour, the exhibition dedicated to Juan Muñoz on the seventieth anniversary of his birth. The violet hour is the hour of art and of the exhibition visitor, an hour in which shadow creeps in to conquer the day. Learn about Muñoz’s early creative period and his interests in surveillance architecture, archaeology, hearing, domestic interiors, theatre, poetry and his optical floors...

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, we invite you to spend some time with us in this refuge, where we can step back and find shelter from the elements.

This programme is designed for all types of groups: Associations, organisations or educational groups of up to 30 people.

Booking required. Contact 912760227 or at educacion.ca2m@madrid.org

Our interest in these temporary encounters is to focus on the construction of knowledge through experience, rather than on the transmission of knowledge. We will start from the viewers’ point of view and how they see art at present. This will allow us to turn this time into a space for encounter in which the participants are not objects receiving an education, but subjects who collectively develop a critical discourse on contemporary works of art. In this way, visits will focus on a limited number of works in order to give rise to a more profound and open reflection, thus avoiding the more superficial exhibition itinerary and the idea of a single discourse.

A star enters twilight when, due to the effect of the rotation of the planet, it crosses the plane of the horizon and passes from the visible to the invisible hemisphere. In the case of the Sun this marks the end of the day. Sunset is a pale tint of orange. A completely imprecise and ambiguous representation of colour that happens fleetingly during twilight. The first use of sunset as the name of colour dates back to 1916.

In this brief meet-up at the museum we are going to create a space for leisurely contemplation. We will take a slow walkthrough enlivened with stories about colour, the work of Mitsuo Miura and actions that happen with light. Over the course of the visit, we will look more intently, we will try to stimulate our pupils in order to perceive differently and we will talk a lot, an awful lot, about colour. We will take a tour of the museum through its spectrum of colours, we will submerge ourselves in its light and the geometries, and we will go up to the roof terrace at the exact time to contemplate the mysterious colour of the sky at the moment when the sun disappears from Móstoles.

Agustín Pérez Rubio, co-curator of the exhibition, invites us to join him on a tour to discover and talk about the various layers of the work of the US-Chinese artist Martin Wong.

On this guided walkthrough with the curator we are invited to participate and revisit a particular time and place that were seminal for the social relations of class, race and sexual orientation in the USA in the 1980s and 90s especially in the area of New York City known as Loisaida and its social reality of criminality, street culture, graffiti and drugs.

Wong proffered himself as a vehicle to open up the debate on the representation of sexual and cultural minorities in art, particularly the Asian and Latino minorities in the USA.

We will glean an insight into “the Bad Chinese” as he called himself, through an analysis of the sociological and political aspects of his work, and, in doing so, underscoring the transfer of language to the medium of painting, the complex mesh of multiple cultures, his interest in systems of language and the symbolism of the people he portrayed.

If you accept the invitation we will share impressions and resonances with our own experiences.
